Modular programmable perfusion systems with feedback control

The Manatee perfusion ecosystem provides solutions for complex fluidic automation. The core of the system is a controller that can connect to up to five syringe pumps. The pumps are equipped with pressure sensors that serve as feedback to 5 individual PID controllers. The system can also be expanded to accommodate extra pinch valves and TTL communication.

Manatee Controller

The heart of the Manatee perfusion system is the Controller unit. It connects to a host PC via USB, and manages up to five pumps, three solenoid valves and up to 128 slave devices. The controller can hold up to 100 commands for offline operation.

Manatee Syringe Pump

The Manatee Syringe pump is a remix of the open-source design by Wijen et al. Additional features include:

  • An end stop for automated refiling
  • a disengageable carriage for manual adjustment
  • A syringe clamp for easy access
  • A pressure sensor for closed loop feedback regulation
  • Manatee Switch Slave

Each Switch Slave allows 24 additional pinch valves to be added to the system.

    Manatee TTL Slave

The Manatee TTL slave allows for a simple interfacing between the perfusion system and other devices such as microscopes.

    Manatee Syringe Manifold

The Syringe Manifold houses eight removable pods, each consisting of a pressurizable syringe (10, 30 or 60 ml) and a pinch valve.

    Manatee GUI

The Manatee Graphical User Interface is an intuitive program that can be used for online control and monitoring of the system, program generation and execution and for uploading of short programs to the Controller for offline operation.
